Ask the Hotel Villa San Francisco about arranging for transportation to a number of local attractions. Take a day to explore Ajijic and it’s many artist’s studios and galleries, soak in mineral pools at the Balanieros in San Juan Cosala, visit the step pyramids known a Huachimontones and lunch at the historic Hacienda el Carmen, or spend a day savoring the elixirs of Jalisco in Tequila.
As you entered Chapala on your way into town, a large grocery and sundries store, Sorianna Hyper, marked the beginning of the business district of Chapala. Just one stoplight away you passed the Pemex Gas Station. Convenience stores, pharmacies, restaurants and all manner of businesses fill the tree-lined main Boulevard of Chapala, Avenida Francisco Madero. Steps away from your Villa on Avenida Hidalgo, Paseo Ramon Corona or Avenida Francisco Madero, you will find anything and everything the town offers. Head past the beautiful Church, Parroquia de San Francisco de Asís, towards the town central plaza and the Chapala Market (which operates seven days a week), to find fresh fruits and vegetables, meats and fish, and numerous small local food stalls. On the back side of the market, Mi Ranchito Cremaria sells deli meats and cheeses, fresh baked bread, bagels, burgers and sandwiches. A block further on Calle Moreno you’ll find El Zapote, a small family run Mexican restaurant that’s always great.
Along the waterfront are dozens of restaurants, vendors selling crafts and clothing, sombreros and sunglasses, cold drinks and local ice creams and candies as well as many family-friendly amusements: Wheel of Fortune, Pony rides, mariachis, voladores, boat rides to Scorpion or Mezcala Islands, and of course countless photo opportunities.
Coffee shops, bakeries, restaurants and dress shops, beauty parlours, massage therapy and art galleries, the malecon has it all! You can walk to Cristiania park, where a water slide, tennis courts and picnic areas under shady trees delight hundreds of Guadalajara visitors every week… Of course there are horses to rent for cobblestone street rides through town.
